A Sleeker You? Résumé Design!

I think it's safe to assume that each of us wants to differentiate ourselves as somehow unique in order to first, land the interview, and second, get paid more.  Am I right?

Fast Company's FastCoDesign.com recently published an article spotlighting an innovative custom résumé design service that will dazzle up your résumé to ensure you wow your audience.  They are kind of snazzy! The first one featured may find itself the new format for my current run-of-the-mill résumé!

Even if you only take a cue from these geniuses who have developed a way to convey a sleeker version of yourself, they raise a valid point: How can you make your résumé work for you right away so you're working smarter not harder right at the get-go of your job-hunt?

As always, your comments are welcome!  How do you differentiate yourself among the masses?

  1. So are you saying even for the graduate school application I can be creative?? Would that be better or being professional??

    1. Hi, Dana! That is a great question! I would say infusing a little pizzazz into your resume even for grad school may not hurt.

First, I would consider the kind of program to which you're applying and what would catch their eye without being too "out-of-the-box." If you're applying to Savannah College of Arts and Design, you would want to be a little more creative. For Business School, you want to differentiate yourself, but not without being so creative that the resume is too hard to read, or too hard to follow. Your essays are also a great way to convey your creativity, energy and personality! So let your sparkling personality shine in those!

With that said, I'd like to ask our recruiting department their thoughts, as well, so you have a better idea of what a top-notch business school would find the most attractive and get back to you.

Thank you for the insightful question, and I'll follow-up with you ASAP!

    2. Dana,

After speaking to our Dean, Toby McChesney, I want to pass along a recommendation: be creative! :) It is certainly a vehicle to differentiate yourself among the mass of candidates!

Hope this helps & thanks for the comment!
